PDQ Corner Project of the Month
It's Just a Game - I love softball! I love to play it, watch it and coach it. Although I love it, I haven't been actively involved with it for 20 years. Then one beautiful day my youngest daughter came to me and said she wanted to play softball.

I was so excited. Back in the game again. Nights at the ballpark. Enjoying once again my favorite pastime.

Apparently I had forgotten my early playing days as a 9-12 year old girl. I had forgotten the joy of being on the field with friends. Laughing at missed balls and strike outs. Falling in love with the game.

Suddenly I was this crazy parent in the stands. Yelling at the umps, discouraged with the coaching and disappointed with our teams lack of ability.

Why couldn't I just watch the game and enjoy the fact that my daughter was playing? Why was winning so important to me? Why are umps with vision problems even on the field?

My new mantra that I make myself say at least 100 times on game day is, "It's just a game." My husband's response, "Good luck with that one."
